We want your ideas!

We're currently planning next term's programme and want to hear from you. What topics would you like to look at? Are there any questions that you wonder about? Let us know!

We've got some topics planned including:

Does God care about what we watch on TV?
Homosexuality
Does God have a sense of humour?
Happiness is winning the lottery
Does God have a plan for my life?
Sex, relationships (and all that stuff)
Summer barbeque at Fishburnes' house

24 Hour famine

This week's challenge is to get as many sponsors as you can for World Vision's 2007 24 Hour Famine.

Going without food for 24 hours sounds really tough - and it is a challenge, but it's totally possible and won't harm you at all.

You will get very hungry and rumbly, but bear in mind that feeling that way is a daily thing for a lot of people in the developing world. As one boy said in the video we watched, it really is just a matter of luck that we've been born in a country with so much.

So get your family and friends to sponsor you and see who can make the most money for World Vision!

p.s If you have an eating disorder, are diabetic or anaemic please don't fast from food. Why not fast from TV, chocolate, using your mobile or like A & J, plan to stay silent for the day?

Me Me Me

This week we thought about how God would have us think about ourselves.

It's one of those balancing act things: we're incredibly special to God so we can feel super-confident because we're His children, but the Bible also tells us to love our neighbour, so selfishness isn't an option for us.

We watched a guide called 'How to be Little Miss me me me' with the soundtrack of McFly's 'All About You' (Andy despairs in my music taste)

We then played Dodgeball, during which there was lots of cheating (brunette team!)

Youth service

As we mentioned briefly on Sunday night, Runway are going to be hosting the Circuit's first (for a long time anyway) Youth Service sometime in July.

We've got a few ideas (mine include some rather funky Runway stewardess hats but more on that later!) but would love to hear what your ideas are.

It'd be great if we made it the sort of service you'd be happy bringing your friends along to. We can start from scratch in terms of ideas - it doesn't need to be anything like normal church if you don't want it to be. So have a think over the next few weeks and let us know your thoughts!

Grace magazine

We saw posters for this new teen mag at Greenbelt. It's especially for Christian girls and looks like it might be really nice. You can email them (www.gracemag.co.uk) for a free copy and even suggest your ideas for the magazine. If you're creative, why not send in some artwork or stories and you might see yourself in print! (Which is exactly how I started my illustration work... ;o))

Fast Food Nation

We looked at junk food tonight - the issues concerning weight gain, food quality, and the environment.

Here are some of the facts and figures:

If you drink one can of fizzy drink a day for a month, you take in 1200g of sugar. To burn this amount of energy off, you would have to walk 75 miles or run up 130,000 flights of stairs.

If you have one burger and fries a day for a month, you take in 1200g of fat, equivalent to five packets of lard.

If you eat one packet of crisps a day, you take in 500ml of oil - a normal sized bottle full.

The bible verse we used in the Departure lounge prayer was this.

The challenge this week is to eat more healthily - avoiding fast food restaurants where you have the choice, and choosing healthier lunches at school. It would be great to hear about your thoughts and progress - do leave a comment if you get a chance.

Spooky stuff

We looked at the whole area of the occult this evening. We started by thinking about what the Bible says about the devil. Isaiah 14 tells how Lucifer was once an angel, who God threw down to Earth. Its good to note that the devil is not as powerful as God. In John 8 we learned that the devil is a liar - we have to be aware that things that involve him are not as they seem. And then 1 Peter 5 warns us to be on the alert since the devil is actively after us.

We then went on to think about different aspects of the occult - Wicca, Witchcraft, Spiritualism and Satanism. There is good information here if you'd like to read more.

Finally we read how Jesus' death on the cross defeated the devil and enabled people trapped in the occult to become free, and how we are in a battle that has the outcome decided already, but a battle nevertheless. Therefore we should think about whose side we are on when we are tempted to get involved with things that might well be harmless, but are really diluted forms of the occult.

We didn't get time to show this video clip sadly, but its quite interesting if you get a chance.

This week's challenge is to take part in Slow Down Week - try and make time for the things that really matter in life.

Changes to the blog

I've updated the software that runs the blog, so those of you who managed to make accounts before might need to create a Google account before you can log in again - it should guide you through the necessary steps.

If you haven't had any success getting an account before now, it might work better now so let me know and I'll send you an invite.

You only need to be a member to create new posts - which you are all welcome to do, by the way. Non-members can leave comments on existing posts.

New Year's Resolutions

We thought about our individual plans for the coming year, and wrote down some things we'd like to do or not do. These have been locked away, and we'll open them up midway through the year to see how things are going.

The challenge this week is to keep your resolutions for a week! Often the first one is the most important, as its a good opportunity to make it a routine.
