Facial Expressions

Meanwhile, Tom W was thinking about Facial Expressions. There are all sorts - happy, worried, tense, scared. Very interesting and deep, Tom.

Fresh Expressions

This evening we talked about Fresh Expressions - new forms of church that run alongside existing traditional church to attract new people by changing the style of the church to fit people's own likes and interests. We watched a video of Legacy XS , a church in Essex for young people into skating and BMX. We discussed what sort of things we'd like to see happen in church. Watch this space... Leave your comments and ideas please!

Runway on as usual Sunday night

Just a note to let you know that Andy has fully recovered (thank goodness - the moaning was unbearable) so runway will be on as normal on Sunday night.
Not sure what we're doing yet, but there will be some Christmas party planning. We're hoping that you guys can each supply a favourite CD that we can make a compilation from for the party (well, you put up with Andy's taste for the rest of the year!) We also thought we'd organise a Secret Santa this year (with a spending limit of £2). We'll pick names out of a hat and then each buy that person a fun gift that they can open at the party (but remember to keep quiet about who you get!)
Hope to see you all then!

No runway tonight

Hi gang! Sorry to disappoint, but there won't be any runway tonight unfortunately. Andy's pulled a muscle hefting a heavy bench around, so is stretched out moaning on the sofa surrounded by hot water bottles.

As Pat and Mandy are both away, I thought it might be a bit much for just me to do! (Plus, I know nothing whatsoever about Cults...) So sorry about that.

But hopefully we'll see you all next week as usual, when we can either look at this weeks' subject or move onto what was planned for then (can you tell I've no idea what that was?)

Have good weeks everyone! xxx

Superheroes Christmas party

This year, our Christmas party will have the theme Superheroes. It'll be on Sunday 16th December at the usual time (7.30pm till 9pm)
It's fancy dress, so come dressed as your favourite superhero. I'm going to be Fat (Cat) Woman and Andy's going to look very cute in his SuperTed outfit.
We'll have games, pressies, entertainment laid on by the Winstanley sisters, and there will be some party nosh too (so don't eat too much tea that night.)
Hope you can all come - put in on your calendar and get creative with those outfits! (Prizes for the best three costumes)

Worry

Tonight we looked at the topic of worry - what we worry about and why, and what we can do to stop worrying so much. It was really interesting to hear what everyone worried about. Top worries included: meeting new people, starting at college, exams, death and not being able to please everyone.
After discussing the subject, we wrote down the things that we're worried about to make a sort of prayer to God; we used the words of the song 'Father I place into your hands' and under each line wrote relevant thoughts.
Then we played our new top game: Hide and Seek (move over dodgeball) - specially requested by Tom!

Gratitude

Tonight we looked at the subject of gratitude. We watched the lottery episode of Friends which highlights how all the Friends characters (apart from Phoebe) have quite a grabby attitude to money. Phoebe is delighted to have won $3, with which she buys cakes and a coffee, because, "I've never won anything before!"
It's not trendy these days to have a grateful attitude; our culture encourages us to continually want more and to always be dissatisfied with what we have. (I imagine that's because it keeps us shopping and that's good for the economy!)
But God loves a grateful heart; he loves it when we thank him for all the blessings we already have in our lives.
We had a good discussion about gratitude and our attitudes to money and posessions, then made posters with pics of all the things we're grateful for on them. ("Certain members of the group put 'boys'" - Susie)
We then had a game of trolley jousting (thanks for the great idea, Chris!)
